Welcome to A Calm Space
There wasn't a grand plan to become a hypnotherapist.
In fact, if you'd told me a couple of years ago that I'd be sitting here writing the first blog post for my own hypnotherapy business, I probably wouldn't have believed you.
I left school at 18, following my A-Levels and really didn't know what I wanted to do. I'd come out of a challenging relationship and although it sounds cliché, I really did feel lost, with very little self-esteem. I decided to get some work experience in a call centre - I quickly realised this isn't something I wanted forever, but it did provide me with an environment to find who I was as an adult.
I moved onto a role in Customer Service at a larger company, progressed into Sales and eventually People and Process management - Enduring a couple more formative relationships alongside, making the journey extra interesting ;)
One thing for sure, I found my confidence. Slowly building self-belief, I started to know my worth and what I wanted. I bought myself a small flat for security, rather than relying on said interesting relationships and became the person I wanted to be - which, funnily enough, led me to find the person I wanted to be with.
Then comes redundancy - my worst nightmare. My identity having become completely intertwined with my job, it where my self-worth came from.
Now what?
During this challenging time, I sought help, in the form of a Hypnotherapy student - Sue. She helped me cope whilst I was in a seemingly endless cycle of company restructures and helped me build resilience in the face of them.
And somewhere along the way, something clicked. Having always had a keen interest in Psychology and people generally, maybe Hypnotherapy could be the answer, could be my next step.
Rather than seeing Redundancy as something that was happening to me, I started seeing it as something happening for me, happening so I could find something I genuinely want to do.
When my redundancy package came through - I signed up to start my training in March 2026.
Now, 6 months into my training. Here I am creating my website and writing my first blog post.
I love working with people. I love empowering people. I love seeing people do well.
I've now spent the last six months learning, practising and working with clients, and one of the things that has surprised me most is how much can change through what, on the surface, can feel like quite ordinary conversations.
A weekly conversation might not feel particularly significant at the time. Then, a few weeks later, you notice something. They're responding differently. They're thinking differently. They're handling something that would previously have overwhelmed them. They're noticing the positives without consciously trying to.
Small shifts = Big changes.
And that has shaped what I want A Calm Space to be.
I don't want therapy to feel intimidating, overly clinical or like somewhere you have to arrive with everything figured out. I want it to feel warm, relaxed, honest and human.
I want you to be able to talk to me easily. To laugh when it's appropriate. To be completely yourself. And to feel that you're being taken seriously when it matters. Because therapy doesn't have to feel heavy to have an impact. In fact, if the aim is to help you feel lighter in your life, why wouldn't we want the space where that happens to feel lighter too?
But relaxed doesn't mean unstructured, and approachable doesn't mean that I don't take the work seriously. Solution Focused Hypnotherapy is grounded in neuroscience and gives us a practical way to understand what's happening in your brain, focus on what's working and help you find your own solutions.
And that's where Find your calm. Find your power. came from.
I don't want to give you all the answers. They're yours.
I want to help you recognise your strengths, build your tools, develop your resilience and become more confident in your ability to handle life. Because ultimately, I don't want you to need me forever.
I want you to leave A Calm Space feeling:
Calmer, more confident, more capable and more like yourself.
A space where you can pause.
A space where you can breathe.
A space where you can find your own solutions.
...And then take them with you, wherever you go.
Welcome to A Calm Space with Chelsea.
I'm so glad you're here .x
